About the Event
Daryl L. Foster makes a grand return to the stage with the debut performance of Black Warrior Dance. Hailing from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, near the Black Warrior River, Foster chose to name his exciting all-male dance company after this river and the Creek Indian Chief Tuskaloosa. The audience can anticipate two captivating acts during this performance. ACT 1 will showcase the return of LIFT, a choreographer's display emphasizing the choreographic expression of Black Men. The choreographic theme “PSYCHE” will introduce three up-and-coming choreographers: Dontae Iverson, Rocket, and Michael Brown. Their creations will delve into the emotions and experiences of Black men.
ACT 2, named “ALT|Forever”, explores the same theme but through the lens of Andre Leon Talley. Talley, known for his remarkable journey to the pinnacle of the global fashion industry, paved the way for black male creatives and scholars by achieving the highest position on the Vogue masthead ever held by a person of color. ALT|Forever draws inspiration from Andre's life and presents six choreographed segments capturing key moments in the life of this Southern American icon. Gibron Whitney Shepperd, a SCAD graduate and CFDA award recipient, will collaborate with Black Warrior Dance to design six unique capes/caftans that will take the spotlight during the performance.
