ABOUT ACADEMY

The McClendon Academy is the award-winning performing arts training & development school of AREA for novices to advanced level dancers. Led by Denise McClendon with over 40 years of experience, with a track record of creating skilled technical artists, the Academy consists of 3 Divisions: Happy Kiddies (First Steps), Rising Stars & Immersion (Pre-Trainees), and AIM (Exploratory).

HAPPY KIDDIES

Happy Kiddies Division | First Steps:

We have designed our Happy Kiddies program to be the first steps in establishing a solid foundation for future arts training. In this enjoyable and introductory curriculum, students will learn basic terminology and skills, develop body control and awareness, curiosity while exploring their own creative interpretation, assist with memory, focus, and fine motor skills that will ultimately help in their overall development. Ages 2-5 years

This curriculum is the students first introduction to dance, and will learn ballet and tap terminology, and basic dance skills, integrated with the development of gross and fine motor skills. Ages 2-3 years

This curriculum is the students continuation in their first steps in training, and will continue mastering ballet and tap terminology, basic dance skills, and gross and fine motor skills. Students are assessed on execution and knowledge of technical skills learned to be promoted to next Division.  Ages 4-5 years

Saturdays: 

Primary 1/2: BALLET/TAP COMBO

Primary 3/4: BALLET/TAP COMBO

Elective choice for both: KIDDIE BOP

RISING STARS

RISING STARS | Pre-Trainees:

Rising Stars offers a focused program for young emerging talent who are chosen by invitation only, and also through audition. These dancers  train a minimum of 3- hours a week in their required training classes, plus have the opportunity to participate in AREAs Performing Division. Ages 4 – 9 years

 

This structured curriculum is for focused students who has been selected by the Artistic Director to begin a serious foundational training and development track. Students must take required course work once per week for this Level, and demonstrate a mastery of beginner level skills, vocabulary, flexibility, and coordination. Ages 4-6 years

This structured curriculum is for focused students who has been selected by the Artistic Director to continue on a serious foundational training and development track. Students must take required course work once per week for this Level and demonstrate a mastery of intermediate beginner level skills, vocabulary, flexibility, and coordination. Ages 5-7 years

This structured curriculum is for focused students who has been selected by the Artistic Director to continue on a serious foundational training and development track. Students must take required course work twice per week for this Level, and demonstrate a mastery of advanced beginner/intermediate level skills, vocabulary, flexibility, and coordination. Ages 5-7 years

This structured curriculum is for focused students who has been selected by the Artistic Director to continue on a serious foundational training and development track. Students must take required course work once or twice per week for this Level, and demonstrate a mastery of intermediate beginner level skills, vocabulary, flexibility, and coordination. Ages 8-14 years
